Worship Leader for Modern Worship Services

Overview 

The Worship Leader is responsible for developing and directing all worship experiences for middle and high school students (Grades 6-12) as well as the Sunday morning modern worship service. The focus is on delivering excellent, Christ-centered, and age-appropriate worship. The leader will ensure technical proficiency, manage A/V needs, and align all programs with the church’s core values and Safe Sanctuaries policy. 

Reporting Structure Reports to the Director of Music Ministries 

Key Responsibilities 

  1. Worship Planning and Execution 
  • Directly oversee the detailed planning, preparation, and execution of worship music for the Sunday morning modern worship service and for Sunday evening youth ministry. 
  • Lead worship for weekly Sunday morning modern worship, youth groups, retreats, special events (e.g., Christmas Eve, Easter), and church-wide worship efforts (including online recordings, as needed). 
  • Collaborate with pastors and worship team members to align worship themes and elements. 
  1. Team Development and Discipleship 
  • Recruit, teach, mentor, and disciple musicians and vocalists to build a   spiritually healthy and musically proficient worship team for both adult and youth worship. 
  • Provide spiritual leadership to the teams, looking for opportunities to minister  to, disciple, and encourage them to grow in Christ. 
  • Lead, manage, motivate, and equip both student and adult volunteers. 
  1. Technical Management and Administration 
  • Utilize the Audio-Visual  equipment necessary for worship services and rehearsals. 
  • Coordinate logistics, including set up and tear down for rehearsals and service needs. 
  • Ensure all ministry activities strictly comply with Wrightsville UMC Safe Sanctuaries policy.

Required Qualifications & Competencies 

  • Faith & Vision: Deep personal faith and commitment to a lifestyle of worship. Must exemplify the church’s values and support its theological direction. 
  • Musical Proficiency: Strong vocal ability and/or proficiency in a lead instrument (e.g., guitar, keyboard) with proven experience leading modern worship.
  • Experience: Proven experience (volunteer or paid) leading worship in a church or ministry  setting is required; prior experience specifically with youth is strongly preferred. 
  • Relational Skills: Exceptional ability to connect with, motivate, mentor, and inspire a multi-generational group of teenagers, parents, and adult volunteers.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Mac & PC platforms. Proficiency in Pro Presenter and Planning Center is preferred. 
  • Leadership & Team Building: High level of initiative, motivation, and enthusiasm.  Demonstrated ability to form effective teams, drive vision, and recruit/grow a musical program.
