YOUTH MUSIC & WORSHIP LEADER

Overview

The Youth Music & Worship Leader is currently a part-time spiritual and creative leader responsible for developing and directing all worship experiences for middle and high school students (Grades 6-12). The focus is on delivering excellent, Christ-centered, and age-appropriate worship while recruiting, training, and discipling a student-led worship team. The director will ensure technical proficiency, manage A/V needs, and align all programs with the church’s core values and Safe Sanctuaries policy.

Reporting Structure

Reports to the Director of Music Ministries.

Required Qualifications & Competencies

  • Musical Proficiency -  Strong vocal ability and/or proficiency in a lead instrument (e.g., guitar, keyboard) with proven experience leading contemporary worship.
  • Experience - Proven experience (volunteer or paid) leading worship in a church or ministry setting is required; prior experience specifically with youth is strongly preferred.
  • Faith & Vision - Deep personal faith and commitment to a lifestyle of worship. Must exemplify the church’s values and support its theological direction.
  • Relational Skills -  Exceptional ability to connect with, motivate, mentor, and inspire a multi-generational group of teenagers, parents, and adult volunteers.
  • Technical Skills - Proficiency in Mac & PC platforms. Proficiency in Pro Presenter and Planning Center is preferred.
  • Leadership & Team Building - High level of initiative, motivation, and enthusiasm. Demonstrated ability to form effective teams, drive vision, and recruit/grow  a musical program.

Key Responsibilities:

Worship Planning and Execution 

  • Directly oversee the detailed planning, preparation, and execution of modern worship music for the youth ministry.
  • Lead worship for weekly youth groups, retreats, special events (e.g., Christmas Eve, Easter), and church-wide worship efforts (including online recordings, as needed).
  • Collaborate with pastors and worship team members to align worship themes and elements.

Team Development and Discipleship

  • Recruit, teach, mentor, and disciple youth musicians and vocalists to build a spiritually healthy and musically proficient student worship team.
  • Provide spiritual leadership to the team, looking for opportunities to minister to, disciple, and encourage them to grow in Christ.
  • Lead, manage, motivate, and equip both student and adult volunteers.

Technical Management and Administration 

  • Manage the Audio-Visual equipment on the campus, serving as the troubleshooter for technical issues that may arise during youth services and rehearsals. 
  • Coordinate logistics, including set up and tear down for rehearsals and youth service needs.
  • Ensure all youth ministry activities strictly comply with WUMC *Safe Sanctuaries policy
