Mikki Perry

DIRECTOR OF CONGREGATIONAL CARE

When did you join the staff and what is your position?

I joined WUMC in 1998 with my husband and two children, who were in high school at the time. I started working in the front office in 2003. My position is Director of Congregational Care.  Along with the general office duties, you call me to schedule baptism and weddings. I handle membership, transfers and the details for funerals.

What is your favorite thing about working here?

I love working with my “Partner in Crime”, Susan Fieldstein. Together, we have the most rewarding job of greeting all who enter the doors. We also have the “Brown Chair” in our office. Please feel free to stop by and sit in the chair to chat, share, laugh or cry. Now, we do have to work, but we consider it part of congregational care to be there for you.

Where were you born and raised?

I was born in Columbia, SC. I am number six of ten children. I moved to Wilmington in 1966. I graduated from New Hanover High School in 1971.

Do you have family?

I have been married to Hayes Perry for 46 years. We have two children, Brooks and Catherine. Brooks & Jessie have our three beautiful grandchildren, Tess and Cooper and Sydney.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I like to work in my yard and take “Field Trips” to the Plant Place. I also will keep my grandchildren any chance I get. I love to read, but don’t have as much time as I used to. My favorite book is “A Tree Grows in Brooklyn” by Betty Smith.
