Susan Fieldstein

When did you join the staff and what is your position?

I joined the staff in 2011 with the official title of “Assistant Director of Congregational Care.” I do a lot of ‘Communication’ work, as well, such as the church newsletter, the bulletin, any inserts, etc.

What is your favorite thing about working here?

First of all, this is the first time I have ever worked in an office setting, so I was a little nervous about that! But that part of me that is organized and likes routine has really enjoyed being in an office, working with other staff members and having that sense of “belonging.” I love that and I love the congregation members who come in our office, plop down in our chair and just visit. We consider that our greatest privilege.

Where were you born and raised?

I was born in Greensboro, North Carolina. I lived there until I left for college. I still love going back to Greensboro and seeing the beautiful, tall trees and the hills!

Where did you go to school?

I attended public schools in Greensboro. When it was time to apply for college, I refused to apply anywhere except Appalachian, in Boone, NC. I had never even been to Boone, but somehow knew that’s where I needed to be. My very favorite place to be is in Boone, NC, where part of my heart lives!

Do you have family?

My husband, Mark and I have 3 grown daughters; Katherine (Dan), Jordan and Cameron. We spend our free time with our delightful group of friends and our oh so precious families!
