Music Ministry
Adults
The Chancel Choir meets every Wednesday evening from 7:15-8:30 (September through July). The choir is open to all singers who are at least 15 years old. They provide music for Sunday morning worship (primarily at the 11:15 service) during the school year. The choir uses a varied repertoire of musical styles in a traditional setting. Music reading skills are not required, but a singing voice and a good attitude are!
The Adult Handbell Choir meets Sunday evenings from 6:00-7:30 (September through July). Currently a three and a half octave choir, they participate in worship several times a year. Members must be able to read music though previous bell-ringing experience is not required. This choir is open to all adults as positions become available.

Youth
Youth Ensemble is comprised of young people in 6th – 12th grades who already have music reading skills. Youth Ensemble meets from 5:00 – 6:00 Sunday evenings. While the group primarily plays handbells, they also do a variety of musical ensemble things, including playing Orff instruments to accompany the children’s choirs. They sometimes play band or orchestral arrangements in worship as well. In addition to participating in community events, the Youth Ensemble attends the annual American Guild of English Handbell Ringers Youth Handbell Festival held in Richmond, VA each November.
Select Choir meets Wednesday afternoons at 5:45 and is an ensemble for the more serious child/youth singer with a focus on vocal technique, music reading, and part singing. Usually children move into this choir after participating in the Wesley Choir for a few years. Often the Select Choir performs with the Wesley Choir or the Chancel Choir. The Select Choir is for children in grades 3-8 and participants need director approval prior to joining.

Children (Wesley, Sharks, Select)
Wesley Choir meets Wednesday afternoons at 4:00 and is the core children’s choir at Wrightsville United Methodist Church. In addition to developing good singing voices, the choir does a variety of fun activities that strengthen the children’s musical skills and ensemble. The Wesley Choir plays Kristal Bells (the color-coded ones) for community events as well as in worship. They participate in worship services several times each year and occasionally put on a dramatic production. Aside from learning new music, a major focus in on learning about worshiping and praising God through music. This choir is open to all children in kindergarten through 5th grade.
Sharks (Level I handchime ensemble) meets Wednesday afternoons at 5:00. The group consists largely of children in grades 3-5 with little or no experience reading music. The Sharks learn to read music and continue to improve basic music reading skills. They learn to play handchimes and work together as a group as they prepare to play in worship a few times each year. Some middle school aged children work in this choir for a year before joining the Youth Ensemble.
